Capcom's highly anticipated sci-fi title Pragmata could have taken a vastly different path than what we've seen in trailers so far. According to lead producer Masachika Kawata, the game was at one point envisioned as a much more horror-focused experience.
Experimenting with Pragmata's Identity
In a recent interview, Kawata revealed that during early development, Capcom was actively experimenting with "what type of game" Pragmata should ultimately be. Sci-fi and horror are historically a match made in heaven, and given Capcom's mastery of the horror genre, leaning heavily into terrifying elements was a very real option on the table.
A Shift Towards Sci-Fi Action
Ultimately, the team shifted direction to craft a unique sci-fi action-adventure experience rather than a pure survival horror game. While Capcom certainly has the pedigree for horror through franchises like Resident Evil, Pragmata evolved into something that balances futuristic mystery, high-tech combat, and narrative intrigue.
- Genre: Sci-Fi Action-Adventure
- Developer/Publisher: Capcom
- Key Focus: High-concept sci-fi storytelling and unique partner mechanics
Would you have preferred Pragmata as a full-blown sci-fi horror game, or are you glad Capcom chose its current action-focused path?
